Greentopia is a local organization working “to change Rochester both economically and environmentally.” They’ll also be hosting this year’s Reflections on the River at the Central Library.

As part of this event, Greentopia asked area artists to reinterpret 32 Rochester Heroes, an exhibit of pressboard historical figure silhouettes that they rescued when the City closed the High Falls Visitor Center. These figures will be making an appearance at 14 local libraries (including the Irondequoit Library) from Monday, July 15, through Sunday, July 28.

You can participate in a Scavenger Hunt throughout the county to find these Rochester Heroes and win a State Park t-shirt (if you visit six libraries) or a copy of the book, also called Reflections on the River, that documented the project (if you visit all 14 libraries with figures).

Each figure has a QR code that’ll take you to a brief synopsis of the artist and the history of the historical figure they painted. The public will also be able to bid on these figures in an online auction for a chance to take home a colorful piece of Rochester history. All proceeds go to support Greentopia’s Green Visions Workforce Development program.

Download a copy of the Scavenger Hunt here and get your entry in before the contest ends on Sunday, July 28. More information is available at Greentopia.org and a full list of the figures can be found here:
