Resonanz, the outreach choir for the Rochester Oratorio Society, will return to the Irondequoit Library on Wednesday, April 2, at 7:00 PM!

They’ll be performing Freedom’s Journey in Song, an all ages show that tells the story of the first tour of the Fisk University Singers. Later known as the Fisk Jubilee Singers, the group had a rocky start, but they were ultimately wildly successful, singing for the highest dignitaries in the US, England, and throughout Europe.

Through narration and song, you’ll follow the story of their journey, and hear some of the original spirituals they introduced to the wider world. Two re-enactors will also help bring the show to life, portraying the roles of George White, the first director of the group, and Ella Sheppard, one of its founding members.

Resonanz is a versatile group that sings pop, jazz, Americana, and holiday music in a wide variety of settings. They are also known for their educational outreach, bringing programs of social and historical significance to schools and libraries across the region.

If you’d like to attend this free concert, please register now through our Event Calendar.
