UPDATE (2/3/26): Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Irondequoit Historical Society Presents History of the Winona Woods Neighborhood program will not be held on Thursday, February 5.

But don’t worry, the program will be rescheduled. Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for the rescheduled date and time.

The next presentation from the Irondequoit Historical Society will shine a spotlight on the History of the Winona Woods Neighborhood.

Jule Rayburn, an Irondequoit resident for 70 years, will talk about the neighborhood, which runs between St. Paul Blvd and Seneca Park (or roughly from Titus Ave. to the end of Winona Blvd. in the 3500 block of St. Paul).

Jule grew up on Amerige Park and attended Parkside Elementary, Rogers Junior High, and Irondequoit High School. He is the treasurer of the Irondequoit Historical Society and is a volunteer in the Town Historian’s Office.

The Winona Woods area has a noteworthy history that encompasses peach orchards, farmland, and housing developed for a growing population. Previous to its growth and development, the area was known for its deep forests and the Rifle Range located at the foot of the bluffs near the end of Chestnut Hill Drive.

Through the use of a variety of sources, including plat maps from the turn of the century to the 1960s, Jule will share information about the early developers and some of the storied homes in the area.

Irondequoit Historical Society Presents History of the Winona Woods Neighborhood will be held on Thursday, February 5, at 7:00 PM. No registration is required to attend, so please join us if you can!
