UPDATE (3/15/20): Irondequoit Public Library Will Be Closed Until Further Notice Beginning 3/15/20

The Irondequoit Public Library is committed to delivering Library services throughout this public health concern. Accurate information and a confident sense of community are paramount in times of uncertainty, and the Library is proud to provide the people of Irondequoit with both.

We recognize the Library also has an obligation to protect vulnerable populations, many of whom have found a second home in the Library .

To protect the safety of Library users and staff, the Library will take the following steps:

  • People who are sick should not use the Library, but rather are encouraged to make use of our vast ebook, audiobook, and streaming movie collection.
  • Library staff have been given extra sick time and are not permitted to come to work when they are sick.
  • The Library will follow the recommendation of the Monroe County Health Commissioner and limit events in the meeting room to fewer than 50 attendees.
  • We will be proactively calling groups who have community room reservations and offering to reschedule events with over 20 attendees.
  • We are also encouraging Library users to practice social distancing, and will encourage this practice by spacing out seating at Library events and in our computer lab.

To ensure that all Library users continue to have access to this vital resource, the Library will take the following steps:

  • Internet access is essential to a modern democracy, and many in Irondequoit depend on the Library for access to the wider world. The Library is committed to procuring the necessary supplies to clean every computer after each use. We continue to provide high speed Wi-Fi.
  • The Library will livestream story times, lectures, and special events, keeping those who are unable to visit us in person connected to our Library’s activities. We will publish links and information to our website and social media accounts.
  • The Library will partner with other organizations and serve as a platform for community resources available to Irondequoit residents.

Though circumstances may require our service strategies to temporarily shift as events unfold, we are committed to serving the Town’s immediate informational, educational, and social needs. Please follow the Town of Irondequoit and the Irondequoit Public Library on social media for frequent updates.
