Cindy Ella, Robin Palmer
Review by: Joanna, 9th grade
Rating: Good!

This book is a modern version of the classic tale Cinderella. Cindy Ella is living with her stepmother, two very prom obsessed step sisters, and slightly fat-ish father. Prom has come along with all its drama, but when Cindy writes an anti-prom letter to the editor, her stepmom and sisters are insulted. Dealing with prom, the negative affect on her letter, and two boy crushes seems to be too much. Until Cindy finds her own unknown Prince.

I enjoyed this book, but it was weird at times. I loved the ending. It was a little slow at times but usually sped up. I liked how the author altered Cinderella to Cindy Ella. That was really creative. I would recommend this book to anyone who liked Cinderella or the movies “Another Cinderella Story” or “A Cinderella Story” because they are very similar modern fairy tales.

Rating: Excellent!

The book is about a girl whose father gets lost and stumbles to a beast’s castle. The beast insisted on Beauty’s father to let him have one of his daughters so Beauty volunteers to live with the monstrous beast. I really did enjoy this book because it was captivating and mysterious. Also, this book was funny and it was interesting how Beauty’s feelings toward the beast change from the first time she meets the beast to the end of the story. I recommend this book to others because this book is a twist on a classic tale of Beauty and the Beast.

The Year of Secret Assignments, Jaclyn Moriarty

Rating: Excellent!!!!!!

Three girls from Ashburg High School are writing to three boys at Brookfield High School. Their pen pal assignment leads to a friendship, heartbreak, revenge, and “secret assignments”. I enjoyed this book ALOT because I thought it was very creative and interesting to have the book written only through letters and emails. Also, I liked the characters. They were very original and quite funny. I would recommend this book to others because it is creative and very fun to read.

Lily B. meets the coolest people ever at her aunt’s wedding. Her parents tell her to stay away from them, but Lily doesn’t listen. Are these people as great as Lily thinks they are? I enjoyed the book because it was very interesting, but the plot was also realistic. Also, I love how it’s written in journal entries and you read about everything AFTER it happens. I would definitely recommend this book to others because it’s fun to read and keeps you guessing.

The book was about a 13-year-old boy named Vladmir Tod who’s a vampire. His parents (Thomas and Mellaina Tod) died in a fire. His ELA teacher was killed and he blames his new teacher who turns out be family. I enjoyed the book because on every page there was a surprise and it really hits you. There’s also a lot of drama with friends, family, and school including Meredith, his crush. There was also a lot of action, fits, murders and betrayal. I would recommend this book to others because it’s a book you won’t want to set down. There’s so much adventure and action, you’ll never want to keep reading till it ends.

Secrets of My Hollywood Life, Jen Calonita

The book is about a TV actress. Kaitlin (16 yrs old) wants to have a normal life and go to school. So she does! In disguise, of course, as a geek! And truly learns what high school is about. I enjoyed this book because it had an interesting main character who was mostly down to earth when it came to being an actress. And the story was funny, with her attempt of living a double life, and exciting. Like when people talked bad about the actress her with her right in front of them (in disguise, of course). I’d recommend this book to others because it was a funny and exciting look on actors!

This awesome book was about a girl named Nore, whose father just got remarried. Her stepfamily seem nice at first, but turn out like they’re trying to kill her! I most definitely enjoyed the book. The author really made it suspenseful! I didn’t know what would happen next. Everyone was a true character and was explained very well and thoroughly. You really visualized the setting and everything! I would recommend this only to people who love suspense, realistic fiction, mystery, and sometimes horror. It was great!
