The Irondequoit Conservation Board will bring Gary Koplun, a Forester with NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, to the library for a presentation about the Re-Introduction of the American Chestnut on Thursday, September 21, at 7:00 PM.
This presentation will include background information about the species, its former range, and the blight which nearly wiped it out. Gary will also discuss some of the work that the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and the American Chestnut Foundation have accomplished, and where they stand in developing a genetically resistant version of the tree. Finally, the presentation will include regulatory restrictions that remain before wide-scale nursery production can begin.
No registration is required to attend Re-Introduction of the American Chestnut.
