There’s nothing better than a fantasy book with a sprawling hand-drawn map in the front. That’s just scientific fact.

Learn how to design and draw your own magical kingdom during the next meeting of our Art Instruction with the Irondequoit Art Club series with Betty Zarcone. Betty will lead a hands-on demonstration on how to draw a simple imaginary map. Theme your fantasy kingdom however you wish and establish your own landmarks and terrain. You can make it fun, or sincere, or once upon a time. Set it in a place far, far away or build a map leading to pirate treasure. Or maybe you just want to make your neighborhood grocery run a little more exciting.

Release the George R.R. Martin (or one of his illustrators) within you and let your imagination take you away for a little while. Then, when you return to reality, you’ll always have a map to get you back to fun.

Betty Zarcone is a lifelong resident of the Rochester area, making a home and raising a family for 48 years in Irondequoit. As an artist she works in many artistic media, including acrylic painting, watercolor, alcohol ink, color pencil, reimagining furniture pieces, and woodworking.

Art Instruction With the Irondequoit Art Club: Fantasy Maps will be held on Wednesday, September 10, at 11:00 AM. If you’d like to attend, please register now through our Event Calendar. All supplies will be provided.

This program was made possible through funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.
