The 2024 Rochester International Film Festival will be held at the Dryden Theatre this June. But library patrons will be able to take a look back at some of the favorites from the fest during Movies on a Shoestring Presents Best of the Festwhich will be held at the library on Tuesday, March 5, at 7:00 PM.

We’ll be showing six short films from the RIFF’s history during this program and we hope you can make it:

Dear Eleanor — 1941. Buddy is an airplane mechanic who enrolls to serve his country as a Tuskegee Airman. In love with Eleanor, he writes her letter after letter trying to persuade her to come south and marry him. (Tina Cannaday Chapman DeCosta – 2023 – 19 minutes)

The Karens – When a women is referred to as a “Karen” it has a negative connotation. But what if your name actually is Karen? You just might need some support. (Katie Goodman – 2023 – 8 minutes)

Walrus and the Carpenter – An animation combining clay sculpture, line drawing and dramatic lighting to bring Lewis Carroll’s words to life. (M. Spaull and T. Gasek – 1980 – 6 minutes)

Kodachrome – Kodak introduced Kodachrome color reversal film in 1935. Kodachrome production stopped in 2006, This Super 8 film is a humorous final homage to this magnificent material. (Juergen Lossau – 2007 – 5 minutes)

Kapaemahu – Kapaemahu reveals the healing power of four mysterious stones on Waikiki Beach and the legendary dual male and female spirits within them. (Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, Dean Hamer & Joe Wilson – 2021 – 8 minutes)

Bingo Night – When Ethel is threatened with eviction at the retirement home, her friends Vivian and Ruth become co-conspirarors in the heist of the century. (Jordan Liebowitz – 2014 – 14 minutes)
