Do you have outstanding overdue fines or lost item fees?
Throughout the month of November, patrons will be able to pay off $1.00 of overdue fines or lost item fees on items owned by Irondequoit Public Library for every nonperishable food item that they donate at our checkout desk.
Don’t have any fines? Patrons can also pick up one free hold for every nonperishable food item that is donated.
All proceeds collected as part of Food for Fines will be donated to the Irondequoit Community Cupboard, which is anticipating an unprecedented need for donations in November, and will help families in our community.
Don’t know what to donate? Here’s a list of the Community Cupboard’s most-requested food items:
— Canned Fruit (Fruit Cocktail, Peaches, Applesauce)
— Canned Meals (Hash, Stew, Chili)
— Soup (Broth, Vegetable Soup, Ready-to-Serve Chicken Noodle)
— Crushed Tomatoes and Diced Tomatoes
— Beans (Red, Pink, Black)
— Mashed Potatoes
— Pancake Mix and Syrup
— Flour and Sugar
— Oatmeal (Original and Quick)
There is no limit on the amount of food someone can donate. For example, if someone owes $10 in overdue or lost item fees, we will accept 10 items of food. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept food for fines on items owned by other libraries.
