This Sunday, Godzilla will officially be 70 years old! So the Irondequoit Public Library is celebrating with a Godzilla movie marathon!

10:30 AM: “King Kong vs. Godzilla” (1963), directed by Ishiro Honda and Thomas Montgomery. No rating. Runtime 91 minutes. Starring Tadao Takashima, Yû Fujiki, Kenji Sahara, Ichirô Arishima, Mie Hama, Michael Keith, and Harry Halcombe.
Synopsis: After his first two cinematic rampages, Godzilla was revived as an adversary for the Hollywood import King Kong. When Kong is discovered on a remote island by a publicity-hungry pharmaceutical company, the giant ape is set on a collision course with Godzilla, and Japan braces for a double dose of devastation. Both the Japanese-release version and the U.S.-release cut were rousing hits, cementing Godzilla’s status as a series-worthy star.
12:30 PM: “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah” (1995), directed by Takao Okawara. No rating. Runtime 103 minutes. Starring Takuro Tastumi, Yoko Ishino, Yasufumi Hayashi, Megumi Odaka, and Sayaka Osawa.
Synopsis: Birth Island, home of Godzilla is destroyed and it is discovered that Godzilla has developed a bright flaming glow, proving his nuclear energy is out of control. Fearing Godzilla will soon explode, the G-Force tries to freeze him, to cool his temperature. Soon a horde of human sized creatures, formed from a combination of Godzilla cells and the weapon that destroyed the original are threatening. Now the military must stop these creatures and prevent Godzilla from going through a nuclear meltdown that could destroy the world.
2:30 PM: “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (2019), directed by Michael Dougherty. PG-13 rating. Runtime 132 minutes. Staring Vera Farmiga, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, and Millie Bobby Brown.
Synopsis: The story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
