On a sunny afternoon on October 23, 2020, the Irondequoit Public Library (IPL) paid tribute to the life of Jack Herrema.
Jack was a community advocate and nature buff who enjoyed all things outdoor. To recognize his numerous contributions to our community, the IPL Board of Trustees, Foundation and Friends honored him with a flowering dogwood tree planted on the Library grounds.
The dedication ceremony was attended by Monroe County Executive and former Irondequoit Town Supervisor, Adam Bello, as well as Irondequoit’s current town supervisor, Dave Seeley, and other town officials. Friends and family also gathered to celebrate Jack’s life including IPL librarian Christy Simons, IPL Foundation member, Mary Ellen Jones, and Jack’s son, Eric Herrema, who offered a heartfelt tribute to his father. Each spoke about their relationship with Jack and his tireless advocacy for the community and its new library, established in 2015. This memorial tree and plaque will be a timeless reminder of this extraordinary man. We are so grateful for his friendship and support.
