A Book: People become terrifying rage monsters after an alien invasion on the microscopic level in Infected by Scott Sigler.

And A Movie: Trick R Treat is a horror anthology that includes everything great about Halloween in one movie.

A Movie: You’ll never look at trucks (or their drivers) the same way after watching Duel, one of Steven Spielberg’s first movies.

And A Book: Richard Matheson’s I Am Legend is another classic vampire story and the inspiration for Night of the Living Dead.

A Book: A musician must face off against a demon from his past in Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill.

And A Movie: Scream parodied the slasher movies of the 80s while still providing plenty of scares on its own.

A Movie: It might seem a little corny today but the original Friday the 13th is still a movie to lose your head over.

A Book: The Long Walk is the first book Stephen King ever wrote and the dystopian novel is still one of his best.

And A Movie: Don’t make a sound when giant underground worms try to devour a Nevada town in Tremors.

A Television Show: Gather round the campfire for Are You Afraid of the Dark? Volume 1, an episode collection of the Nickelodeon show.

And A Book: If the stories in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz don’t scare your kids the illustrations will.

A Book: Quoth the librarian… you should read The Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe.

And A Movie: Prepare yourself some fava beans and a nice Chianti before sitting down to watch Silence of the Lambs.

And A Movie: They say that no one can hear you scream in space. Clearly these people weren’t watching Alien starring Sigourney Weaver.

A Television Show: Catch up on everyone’s favorite zombie show with The Walking Dead: Season 1.

And A Book: Feed by Mira Grant mixes together zombies and a Presidential election. Trust me, it’s better than the debates.


October 15
A Book and A Movie: We’ve got a two-fer today as The Exorcist (the book by William Peter Blatty and the movie starring Linda Blair) is scarily turning heads.


October 16
A Movie: Wes Craven showed us that he didn’t need a dreamy demon to make a scary movie with Red Eye starring Rachel McAdams.

And A Book: Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House is considered by many to be one of the best haunted house tales of all time.


October 17
A Book: In The Terror, Dan Simmons blends a fictionalized version of an 1845 arctic expedition with a monster story.

And A Movie: Today’s pick is here as we recommend the haunted house flick Poltergeist from 1982.


October 18
A Book: Clive Barker is one of the biggest names in horror and his Books of Blood trilogy is a good one for new fans.

And A Movie: Candyman is based on a short story by Clive Barker and it’ll make you think twice about looking at mirrors.

A Book: Government experimentation, an army of super-intelligent monkeys, and murder! Read Fear Nothing by Dean Koontz.

And A Television Show: Prepare yourself for its return in January with all nine seasons of The X-Files. The Truth Is Out There!

A Book and A Movie: It’s another book/movie combo as we make The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson (and its 1979 film adaptation) today’s pick.

And A Movie: What’s that in the shadows? It’s Insidious, a pretty great haunted house flick from 2010.

A Movie: The Conjuring is a spooky little film about a pair of paranormal investigators in the 1970s.

And A Book: An evil spirit haunts four men with a secret in Peter Straub’s Ghost Story.

A Book and A Movie: The devil took possession of today’s pick, selecting Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin and the film starring Mia Farrow.

A Movie: Listen up! Our final movie pick is Army of Darkness, which will prepare you for tonight’s premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead.

And A Book: This is it, so fittingly enough, the last of our scary selections is It by Stephen King.
