Gerry Szymanski, a librarian at the Eastman School of Music, will join us at the library to talk about the History of the Empty Closet, a unique facet of Rochester history and the LGBTQ+ rights movement!
The Empty Closet started out as a “zine” for members of the Gay Liberation Front, and it has been Rochester’s best source for LGBTQ+ news for over 50 years. This lively talk will trace the lineage of the people, the places, and the paper, as our community has moved from activism, to the AIDS crisis, to educating, and advocating for change.
