Dr. Jeffrey Q. McCune, Jr., the Founding Chair of the Department of Black Studies and Frederick Douglass Professor of African American Literature and Culture at the University of Rochester, will join us at the library on Tuesday, August 20, at 7:00 PM.
His presentation will take a close look at James Baldwin’s 1963 work The Fire Next Time, as a message for our contemporary world and its wrestle with issues of anti-blackness and the “problem” of race. Dr. McCune will discuss some of the key passages in Baldwin’s text, offering a conversation with, and elaboration on, some of the most critical ideas shared in this work.
If you’d like to attend The Fire This Time: James Baldwin and Lessons for This Age, please register now through our Event Calendar.
