Learn all about one of Europe’s ancient civilizations in Uncovering Ancient Italy: Recent Archeological Excavations at Trebula Mutuesca, an upcoming presentation from Professor Elizabeth Colantoni and the Rochester Society of the Archaeological Institute of America.
Nestled in the Sabine Hills of central Italy, Trebula Mutuesca was a thriving place 2,000 years ago. During the time of the Roman Empire, the site was famous for its temple to the Italic goddess Feronia, and it also featured a monumental amphitheater which would have drawn thousands of spectators from the surrounding countryside.
In this talk, Professor Colantoni, an Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Rochester, will introduce the site and present discoveries from the 2024-2026 archeological excavations at Trebula Mutuesca, which were sponsored by the town of Monteleone Sabino and the Trebula Mutuesca Archaeological Museum in collaboration with the University of Rochester and the University of Missouri.
