Celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with the library this May with an Ikebana Flower Arranging workshop on Tuesday, May 14, at 6:00 PM.

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arranging, and Ikebana International is a non-profit cultural organization whose objective is to stimulate and perpetuate the study of ikebana and related arts throughout the world.

Would you like to learn how to arrange flowers in your garden using ikebana? Did you see a unique branch that blew down or a broken flower you would like to bring home and use in an arrangement? Come see Ikebana International’s teachers from different ikebana schools show you how. Ikebana uses few materials, in a variety of containers, all yielding a pleasing asymmetric form.

This program will be presented by the Rochester Chapter #53 of Ikebana International, which meets monthly on the third Thursday of the month at the First Baptist Church (175 Allens Creek Rd.). Our motto is “Friendship Through Flowers.” Around 160 chapters operate in 50 countries, and we’re fortunate that our chapter in Rochester has existed for over 60 years.

If you’d like to attend this program, please register now through our Event Calendar.
